About Us
In 1962 at the age of 14, Mel Taylor was in wood shop class with all of his projects completed. Mr Blackburn saw that he was causing mischief and assigned him the task of building some bee hives for him. Once Mel had completed that assignment he decided to build his own bee hives too. A few weeks later Mel scrounged up some money from odd jobs and purchased a package of bees from Sears and Roebucks.
When the bees arrived the Postmaster called Mel’s mother and said “ Do you know what your damn son has done now? He has ordered some bees and I want them out of my office now.” Trying not to laugh, Mel's mother said she would send him down as soon as he got home from school. When Mel got off the school bus his mother was there waiting. After hearing the news he dropped his stuff on the ground and ran to the post office. After carrying the package of bees home carefully, Mr. Blackburn came by the house and helped install the bees into their new hive. Before leaving Mr Blackburn gave Mel some books about bees and said “Study Up.”
For days Mel would watch the bees on the clover and dandelions in the family cattle pasture, then run back to the hive and see if he could identify which bee he saw.
Throughout the years Mel would gradually add to his hive numbers by adding a new hive each year. After college, his career moved him to St George, Utah.
Raising a family he continued to grow the number of hives and always found jobs to keep his children busy in the hobby.
As the years went by, the number of hives increased and the hobby turned into a small family business of not just honey, but also pollination of Almonds, and various other fruits and vegetables, as well as selling starter packages of bees for beginning beekeepers.
Today the bee operation is still a small family business that now has a third generation of beekeepers. We focus on keeping our honey raw and unfiltered with no additives. We believe our honey should be consumed and enjoyed the way nature intended it to be.
